A few more images of wintering sea geese from around Sachuest Point; In flight and playful
in a coastal tide. I’ve heard casual observers confuse them with larger Canada Geese. Brant
sport shorter bills and tails and are not known to breed in the US, other than way up in the
northern parts of Alaska. What we’re looking at actually are the Pale-bellied variety, one of
3 Brant subspecies. Given the considerable distances they have to cover between breeding
and wintering grounds they evolved into very efficient flyers.
